Happy New Year!
It seems as I get older each year goes faster than the last. So if you’re a person who regularly reviews your goals you set you may feel a sense of accomplishment or failure depending on those results. I firmly believe that a goal never written down is a goal that is not worthy of achieving! All of us must first come to an honest, open self-examination and awareness within as to who and what we want to be. The problem can be how we keep our lives in proper balance. May I suggest the following approach as you set goals and priorities for 2016!
Start by reviewing the covenants you have made with the lord which will help you prioritize and find proper balance in your life. This review will help you see where you need to repent and change your life to ensure that you are worthy of the promises that accompany covenants and sacred ordinances. Working out our own salvation requires good planning and a deliberate and valiant effort. The following process might help you as you consider the direction you would like to go in 2016!
First, think about your life and set your priorities. Find a quiet place where you can think and ponder trying to receive your own personal revelation on these matters regarding where you are going and what you will need to do to get there. Write down each day the tasks you would like to accomplish.
Second, set short-term goals that you can reach. Set goals that are well balanced- not to many nor too few, and not too high nor too low. Write down your attainable goals and work on them according to their importance. Pray for divine guidance in your goal setting.
Third, what are your financial goals and what challenges do you face financially? Through wise budgeting, control your real needs and measure them carefully against your wants in life. If you have excessive debt, then make a plan to reduce your debt and learn to live well below your means.
Fourth, stay close to your spouse, children, relatives, and friends. Your family will provide support and help in accomplishing your desired goals. Share with them what you are working on and where appropriate ask for their help in helping you with accomplishing these goals.
Fifth, study the scriptures and listen to the counsel of our Prophets and apostles. The spirit will reveal over and over to you as you regularly study the words of our scriptures and counsel from our leaders. Nephi taught that we should feast upon the good word of Christ and that the spirit will reveal all truth.
Brothers and Sisters I know that no matter the challenge in your life or the accomplishments we seek out that we can do all things. We have a loving Heavenly Father who loves us and is ready to help us if we will first put him first and seek after righteousness. May each of us have a wonderful 2016 filled with love and peace. God bless each of you!
